My Dogs

I’ve only ever had rescued Weimaraners, until my current two dogs. I’ve had a blast training them and I’m very proud of their accomplishments. My first dog Martika had a joy for life that was very special. Tika lead me down the path towards being a dog trainer. She was amazing and I will never forget her. Each one of my wonderful, loving dogs has taught me many things.  Take a look at my photo gallery.

CT Regen’s Underdog Sweet Polly Purebred, TDX, TKN, NW2 (Polly)

Polly is the only non rescue dog I have ever had. Since I love tracking and scent work, those are the two sports I started training right from the start. Polly is a phenomenal tracking dog and completed her Tracking Dog title at just 10 months of age, her Tracking Dog Excellent title at 15 months of age and her VST and CT in May, 2023 at just 22 months of age. She also excels in Nose Work and has her NW2 title, as well as her Trick Dog Novice title. She is also actively training in agility and competitive obedience.

Shining Star Burning Bright, NW Elite (Nova)

Nova, a German Shorthaired Pointer, is a washed out explosives dog, formerly owned by a security company. She fell into my lap about a year after my beloved Cassie died. It quickly became clear she was not given up because of the physical issue they stated, but because she was afraid of loud noises (gun shy and terrified of fireworks) and new environments. She has vastly improved, mostly because her confidence improved through nose work. She actively trials in many scent work venues, CPE, UKC, AKC, C-WAGS, and of course NASCW! She is new to barn hunt and is a rat hunter extraordinaire! She is a true love-bug and if she were not so large I have no doubt she would be a lap dog. She trains in tracking but is usually too distracted by critters to be successful, but she loves going in the field. In September, 2023, she had the honor of being in the AKC National Tracking Invitational, one of only 12 CT dogs in the country.

  • NW Elite: Nose Work Elite (National Association of Canine Scent Work), acquired by passing an NW3 trial three times.

CT Cassiopeia, VCD2, RE, NF, JH, CGC, NSD, VX, NW Elite. The titles after her name are explained below.Cassie
RIP sweet Cassie! In September, 2011, she had the honor of being in the AKC National Tracking Invitational. Mom’s knees aren’t so good or we would still be doing agility! But, her most important accomplishment is helping me with my aggression cases. She was the best helper in the world and is truly missed.

  • CT: Champion Tracker
  • VCD2: Versatile Companion Dog is a combination title encompassing 4 accomplishments–Companion Dog Excellent, Tracking Dog, Open Agility, Open Agility Jumpers
  • RE: Rally Excellent
  • NF: Novice Fast (an agility title)
  • JH: Junior Hunter
  • CGC: Canine Good Citizen
  • NSD: Novice Shooting Dog (Weim Club of America)
  • VX: Versatile Excellent (Weim Club of America)
  • NW Elite: Nose Work Elite (National Association of Canine Scent Work), acquired by passing an NW3 trial three times.

Cassie needs one more Utility leg, but we are taking a break from competitive obedience to focus on sports she really enjoys.

Hope and Cassie

Hope and Cassie

Hope, (gone but not forgotten) a puppy mill rescue. Her owner was just starting a puppy mill when he was called up for Iraq. He gave the 12 dogs he had (3 Weims) to a shelter, who called the various rescue groups. Our group took the 3 Weims. She was completely unsocialized and is the most shy dog I have ever encountered. In spite of a bad first year, she has come a long way in her training to handle life. She deserves a braveness title!

She can do a couple tricks, like offer paw, touch her nose to your hand, jump on you if invited (we actually wanted her to learn to jump on us to encourage her to interact with us) and can file her own toenails by pawing a board covered with sand paper.

I have never been able to teach her any sports until Nose Work came along. She is now happily hunting for scent! She will probably never trial but is happily working scent in environments in which she feels safe.
